Born Bobby Jack Welch, Jr. in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Jack began performing at the age of 12, playing saxophone with a local high school Mex/Tex/Pop band, and was paid $5.00 for his first performances.
Throughout high school and college Jack put together several dance and show bands. While playing in the El Paso and Ruidoso area, Jack was offered a national tour by the Royal Inn Hotel chain and toured with his band, “Elixer”, during 1977. Following an engagement in California, the band was offered a tour with the
USO/Department of Defense, which took them to Europe and the South Pacific. Returning to the US, Jack took the group on another US tour with the Holiday Inns. This group would go on to play the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.
Following a long time dream to own his own nightclub, Jack opened Fatz Night Club in 1989, featuring his band “Jack Welch and the Fatz Katz”. After selling the club in 1991, Jack turned his focus to writing original music and working on his new single act, “Jack Welch and Shadow”. After winning the Nashville Songwriters Contest in 1995, Jack’s musical arrangements and sequencing were acclaimed by local producers.
“I choose the name ‘Shadow’ because I use some of the most modern technology to sequence my musical arrangements. While I’m on stage my ‘Shadow’ plays it back for you. During my performance I combine my ‘Shadow’ with live keyboard and saxophone playing. Entertaining and singing have never been more fun and exciting for me,” Jack says.
Jack was the feature entertainer at Billy Crews Lounge, in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, for sixteen years. His fan base covers the young as well as the young at heart. His dynamic performing style and trademark saxophone capture audiences through out the southwest including engagements such as the New Mexico Governor’s Annual Reception, the Ruidoso Downs Casino Grand Opening, Speaking Rock Casino, Sunland Park Casino and a long list of Country Clubs and Resorts. In addition to his musical talent, Jack is the owner of Honors Golf Academy in El Paso, Texas. See his website at www.honorsgolfacademy.com.
